Children with special educational needs can often find themselves in a downwards spiral. Poor academic performance can lead to low self esteem, a lack of self confidence and a ‘can’t do’ attitude.
We use a range of activities to help children who struggle academically to build their confidence and find something they excel at. Activities such as kickboxing, boxing, gymnastics and street dance are used to find a children’s forte.
Once we have established which skill set they best connect with, we can begin setting achievable goals, rapidly building self confidence and providing the instant gratification they crave through praise and personal achievement. This provides the catalyst for the most incredible chain reaction, allowing us to work alongside teachers to identify and break down the barriers holding them back, leading to greater achievements and happier times within the classroom…
This process can often unlock ‘troublesome’ or ‘introverted’ children, making communication a great deal easier which in turn allows us to work with teachers to identify and break down the barriers holding them back, leading to greater achievements and happier times within the classroom.
Our sessions are fast moving enough to bypass attention deficit yet detailed enough to trigger the hidden super power of hyper focus. Most importantly it escalates self confidence at an incredible rate.
Depending on the individual we can start out with one to one sessions, moving to small group training and culminating in participation in mainstream classes. We have had the most incredible results by focusing on the individual rather than their ‘disorder’. Many of our ‘superstar’ pupils are on the autistic spectrum or have been diagnosed with ADD or ADHD.
We find brain break sessions bring about the best results. A fifteen minute session on the punch pads or a quick dance battle along with a catch up chat can literally work miracles. Even the least communicative children start to open up after just a few sessions. Depending on the individuals needs we may then start seeing them as part of a pair, then a small group, with the odd one to one session now again to see how they are getting on.
If your child’s school isn’t part of the SEN Superstars program then it may be worth asking if they’d consider it. If not then we will do our very best to work with them at the Get Hyped studio.
